01 Who this policy covers
This Privacy Policy describes how Calcubear (“Calcubear,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you visit calcubear.com and any page on it.
Calcubear is an independently owned and operated website based in the United States. It is not affiliated with any lender, mortgage broker, real estate brokerage, bank, or government agency.
By using the site, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please stop using the site.
02 Information you enter into the calculator
The mortgage and home equity calculator asks for figures such as home price, down payment, interest rate, loan term, HOA fees, insurance, square footage, lot size, bedrooms, bathrooms, year built, and purchase year.
These values are processed in your browser. We do not store them on a server, we do not attach them to your identity, and they are gone when you close or reload the page. We do not ask for your name, address, phone number, Social Security number, income, credit score, or any account information — and you should not send those to us.
The one exception: ZIP code
When you enter a ZIP code, the site sends that five-digit number to our own property tax lookup service so it can return an estimated local tax rate. That request is used only to answer the lookup. We do not use it to build a profile of you or link it to other information about you.
Practical note: a ZIP code on its own does not identify you, but combined with other data it can narrow down where you live. If that concerns you, leave the ZIP field blank and enter a property tax rate manually — every calculation on the page still works.
03 Information collected automatically
Like nearly all websites, Calcubear and the services that host and protect it record basic technical information when a page is requested. This can include:
- IP address and general geographic region derived from it
- Browser type, operating system, and device type
- Pages requested, date and time of the request, and referring page
This information is generated by our hosting and content delivery providers as part of serving the site, keeping it available, and defending it against abuse. We use it in aggregate to understand traffic and diagnose problems.
04 Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. Calcubear itself does not require cookies to function — the calculator works with cookies disabled.
Cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage, web beacons, and pixels) may still be set on this site by third parties, principally our advertising partner. Those are described in the next section.
You can control cookies through your browser settings — most browsers let you block them, delete existing ones, or warn you before one is set. Blocking cookies may affect how other websites behave, but it will not break this calculator.
05 Advertising and Google AdSense
Calcubear is free to use and is supported by advertising. We use Google AdSense to display ads.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Third-party vendors and ad networks other than Google may also serve ads on this site and may use their own cookies or similar technologies to do so.
Your advertising choices
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices or optout.networkadvertising.org.
- To understand how Google handles data from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Opting out of personalized ads does not remove ads from the site — you will simply see ads that are less relevant to you.
We do not control ad content. Ads are selected and served by Google and its partners. Their appearance on Calcubear is not an endorsement, recommendation, or vetting of any advertiser, lender, or product. See our Disclaimer for more.
06 If you are in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland
Where required, we present a consent notice before non-essential cookies are set, so you can accept or reject personalized advertising and manage your choices. You can reopen that notice at any time using the Privacy options or Manage cookie settings control in the site footer.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the UK GDPR, including the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
Because Calcubear does not maintain user accounts and does not store the values you type into the calculator, in most cases we simply hold no personal data to retrieve or delete. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
07 If you are in the United States
Residents of California and a number of other states have rights under state privacy laws, which may include the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to request deletion, the right to correct inaccuracies, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising.
We do not sell your personal information for money. However, the use of third-party advertising cookies may be treated as “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising under some state laws. You can opt out of personalized advertising using the links in Section 05, by enabling a Global Privacy Control signal in your browser, or by contacting us.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
08 Children's privacy
Calcubear is intended for adults making decisions about real estate and home financing. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction).
If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
09 Data retention and security
Calculator inputs are not retained at all — they exist only in your browser for the length of your visit. Technical logs generated by our hosting providers are retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, then discarded in the ordinary course.
The site is served over HTTPS. That said, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10 Links to other sites
Calcubear contains links to third-party websites, and advertisements on the site link to destinations we do not operate. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or accuracy of any third-party site. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of every site you visit.
11 Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the site changes or as legal requirements evolve. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be made clear on the site. Continued use of Calcubear after an update means you accept the revised policy.
